Welcome

Our Association « Les Amis du Vieux Plazac » is happy to welcome you to its web-site and proud to introduce to you this beautiful village, nestled at the very heart of the Périgord Noir, within easy reach of the world-famous treasures of the Vézère valley. Your time here will be time well-spent. On a gentle hillside, the Episcopal Palace complex stands proudly as the village’s jewel, encased by historic dwellings, some dating back to the fifteenth century.

Indeed, Plazac is unique in the region in that its history has been linked for centuries to that of the bishops of Périgueux, who established one of their residences in the village.

The church and its neighboring palace, its fortified bell-tower and the cemetery, all attest proudly to this long history. In 2005 the site was officially listed as one of France’s Historic Monuments and has now embarked on a major restoration program.

The objective of our Association is to help you to discover –or re-discover – the village of Plazac and all it has to offer, to participate in its preservation and to be part of its cultural and social life.

As you explore these pages, you will find information about our Association, its organization, its driving spirit and the level of its achievements, as well as details on the events it organizes and what it plans to do in the future. On behalf of the Association Les Amis du Vieux Plazac”, it gives me much pleasure to welcome you to our web-site. I am sure that the lines of communication it will create between us will enable you to know better our lovely village and will enable us to strengthen our action with the help of your ideas and suggestions.

Here we go for a new season particularly rich in activities, even if the timing is a little crowded.

All the Association's usual events find their place but also some new ideas, as we indicated at the Annual General Meeting. Here are two scheduled for the month of June :

A Musical Promenade in the grounds of the Roc de Mioule whose owner, Madame Rousseau, has agreed for the very first time to host one of the most popular items from the calendar of Les Amis du Vieux Plazac.

A Guided Walk in the Plazac countryside, taking a new look at its natural beauty and at the richness that Man has brought to it over the centuries. We are particularly fortunate to have Monsieur Genty as our guide and mentor : geographer, university professor and, above all, a lover and connoisseur of the region.

On the back page you will find dates and details for all the events, with reminders and practical information to follow in due course.

To both host and guide we offer our heartfelt thanks for the support they are giving to our Association.

We hope to see you crowding in to both these activities.
